foto friday

A new series! I know I promised a new series a few weeks ago for Fridays. Yes, I am also aware that Friday only has 26 more minutes remaining. Better late than never!

I want to use this series as a way to show you one of my "things" - Photography is my THING. 'Hobbies' are lame. I have a THANG! LOL! Ahem...Anyhow. I am very much an amature but I am learning. Any critiques or comments you have are much appreciated!

Today I will feature my 2 best newborn pictures. E at 6 days old and Lauren at 5 days old. I continually kick myself for not getting all of E (including his little piggies, because WHAT is more yummy than baby toes??? NOTHING!!) I am pretty happy with Laurens though! What do you think?

Gourd Monsters

Squash: A halloween craft just waiting to happen. My kids went and picked pumpkins and certainly have a blast but carving them just isnt as much fun for them at this age. Instead the pumpkins are seated whole on the porch and we decorated with Gourd Monsters! What is a Gourd Monster you ask?? --You didnt ask? too bad, here is the low down! Start of like this:

now progress to this stage:

And end up with these:

And a couple of these:

Total blast without the pumpkin goop. Per Lauren : "This is better, mom - this is NOT icky!"

Where has October gone?

Hey everyone!! So sorry for my hiatus! This month has simply flown by. We lost our computer :( but we have now gained a new laptop and I couldnt be happier! I would have started posting on it last week but we took off for the mountains for a little family trip. It was much needed quality family time! I missed my blog though and I am happy to be back! Here is a small portion of the fun we had last week in Gatlinburg:

Elijah quote of the week after sneezing and being told "Bless you" by his daddy: "Daddy, you are supposed to say GOD Bless You! - You are so embarrassing!!"

Lauren quote of the week: "Mommy, I just want money and ice cream! But if I cant have both, I just want ice cream!"

It was a great time. :)

I have worked on a few crafts too!
I turned this horrible flower arrangement into something cute and fun for fall!
 After:

This braclet is actually a botched project for something completely different! Now it is fun and perfect!

And of course we made Halloween costumes! Both of my kiddos enjoyed using freezer paper stenciling to help create their own skeleton costumes. Lauren's has pink bones and Elijah's has blue bones. I will post some more pictures of them after trick or treat :)

I hope your last few weeks have brought you abundant joy!

He created the Heavens

I know I just posted a scripture yesterday ...but some days when I have pile of sewing, half finished Halloween costumes and Christmas projects calling my name I think it is best if I just let God do the creating and I take the time to appreciate Him. A view from our back porch...

Isaiah 40:26
"Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing."

Isaiah 45:8
"You heavens above, rain down righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness grow with it; I, the LORD, have created it.

a gift for my love

This is an oldie but I thought you might like it. My hubby is VERY hard to buy for. He never really wants anything and is not easily surprised. Last year for Christmas I thought it would be nice to give him a list of 100 reasons I love him. Honestly I thought this would be perfect. Thoughtful. I was blown away when, in fact, it took me less than 30 minutes to create the list. I came up with 100 reasons to love my hubby in 30 minutes! In hind sight this should have told me my marriage is amazing. Which I already knew. But initially I felt bad! I felt bad that I had come up with this list in only 30 minutes. I mean, how thoughtful could it be if I finished in a half hour?

To vamp it up I decided to put the reasons into a little scrap book. I printed the list on paper lunch sacks. I liked the color and texture they added. This was a fun project that my husband really enjoyed.

We are truly best friends. :) xoxoxo

A list like this could also be framed and make a nice gift for a birthday, anniversary, valentine, etc

Now I just have to come up with something personal for this Christmas.

a pocket purse

I am trying to get some Christmas gifts made for the kiddos. Between work and church and school and playing and singing life is nutso! from October to Christmas in our home. I managed to squeeze in a stocking stuffer for little pants. It's a teeny little purse made from - of course - a denim pants pocket. :)

I chose some coordinating beads, buttons and embroidery floss. You can embelish with virtually anything!

I stringed the beads to make a handle and sewed them to the inside of the pocket.
covered the knots with some buttons and sewed on a few more buttons to embelish.
 Happy stocking stuffer!
This is a fun and simple project that can easily be done with kiddos who can string beads while you embelish!

i'm the map. i'm the map. i'm the MAP!

Do your kids love maps?? Maybe it is just my weird child? E-Bot sure loves to look at maps and ask about places. He wants to know how to "get somewhere". I made this quick map by pasting the satellite image of the area surrounding our home from Google Maps into powerpoint and using basic editing tools to add some bling and "Elijah-fy" the image. Then I printed it on cardstock and sealed it with a self laminating sheet. My kid loves carting this thing around and I love it too - aside from the toner cost this was FREE!

You could certainly paste the image to Word, Publisher, Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop or even Paint and personalize this with little computer skills.

thanks for stopping by!
