the princess and the pea - part 2

Good news! I got all of the pics for this project off of my camera and they are ready to share. I really hope miss pants likes this!

Tell me what you think and dont forget to visit my inspiration here: the princess and the pea

This is my first ever doll! (Come to think of it, this is also the first time I have ever made 12 teeny mattresses...) I didnt have a pattern so I just made her freehand and I think she turned out pretty cute.
Here is a view from the side stacked up nice and neat

 some details:
The pea is on the bottom of course. It is a green bead which I sewed on instead of making a pocket like the example in my inspiration link. (Here it is again in case you missed it! the princess and the pea). Since lauren is only 2 I didnt want to risk the choking hazard.

I wanted to show a few images from the book too. LOVE this version of the classic tale!

PLEASE! I want to know what you think! <3

I FINALLY finished my princess and the pea gift set for little lauren! Cant wait to give it to her for Christmas. Will post some more pics tomorrow. Here is a sneak preview!

This is based on the The Princess and the Pea by Lauren Child with amazing pictures by Polly Borland. And of course, many other mommas out there in craft blog land making these right now. I especially like this one: the princess and the pea. I will post more details for you tomorrow!

random thoughts about my odor...

regularly scheduled foto friday will be seen...at some other time.

I am sick. To say the least I am a terrible patient and I loathe being sick. One of the major problems? I SMELL! YICKKKK! My hubby says i am nuts and he cant smell me. To be fair he isnt getting that close to me...

about me and my sniffer:

I have an extremely sensitive sniffer. (being pregnant was, in fact, stinky). I can smell things several minutes before people around me and the number one rule of my existance is that  will not put anything stinky in my mouth. If I think it smells it is NOT going in and I dont care what it is. Many people are very surprised I have never tried cigarettes or even beer. I cant help it. That stuff smalls so gross! EWW!!

Anyhow. I just got out of the bath, it is my second bath today following the shower I also took this morning. Am I crazy and doing nothing more than drying out my skin? probably. But my conclusion? Being sick STINKS! literally. for real.

what they said wednesday

My sweetest boy says the wierdest stuff! Here is one story my hubby wrote for me to share. I wish I had been present for this one!

"You don't say that", the small child's voice rang loudly from the backseat. Unsure of what the conversation had been up until that point due to the fact dad was busy paying attention to the road before them, he turns his ear to the backseat where the kind of thing he was sure would continue for the next quarter century of his two and four-year-old's lives. They wanted to spat, you could tell, it's just that this one, like many when viewed from an adult's perspective, rang humorous as the vocabulary and thought processes it takes to generate a good "tell your sibling how it is fight" were clearly underdeveloped. The normal verbiage of poopy head, doody butt, and obligatory equal retorts were flowing, when a new line of thought entered the equation... "oh yeah, well if you do that again, God's going to send you to Mars!", this peaked dad's interest like never before, "Elijah?", before he could ask, the four year old spoke once more in all his four year old wisdom, "God will send you to Mars, in outer space", "no not" was all the two year old could muster before dad was actually able to join the conversation, "Elijah, that's not how it works, God doesn't punish people by sending them to outer space". For those of you familiar with the reasoning and argumentative skills of a four year olds, it rivals the worlds greatest courtroom attorneys. "yes huh dad, he'll send you to outer space - to Mars!". Interesting perspective I suppose, and just another in a long line of battles I'll choose not to fight, the line of thought came --and went just as quickly. I've not heard of God sending people to Mars or outer space since. Leaving me to continually ponder the mind of a child…

Love that boy!

foto friday

Photographing Boys

Some of my favorite subjects to photograph are boys. They are amazing little creatures all full of craziness and dirt and fun and gross. I will never understand the little monsters and I adore them more all the time. Mine especially of course!

They are HARD to capture. One must be creative and sometimes sneaky to trick them into it. Sometimes though, they just smile and let the rotten out for the camera to see. Here are some of my favorites…

Here is a picture taken a few summers ago of my boy and his guitar. He loves “playing” the guitar. I am sure we will have to invest in lessons before long. He doesn’t seem to be outgrowing it. I love this picture because it doesn’t just capture a moment. It captures E and his love for his guitar. It captures his little boy spirit. This is him all over. I never want to forget!

Another of my little man…He was scared because there was a bee floating around the sheet he was plopped on. I told him bees hated laughing and proceeded to tell as many corny jokes as I could think of. We had such a fun time that day. He is such a sweetheart. I decided to use text on the final image to try to capture my feeling about him.

And here are 2 of my precious little nephews. They are quite the joksters and get along SO well. They were easier to photograph – probably because I am not their mom. Just their super cool Aunt Tai.

Hope you enjoyed! As always I am open to any comments and critiques of my photographing skills…

trick or treat - smell my feet!

We had a blast trick or treating this year! My favorite part - NO stroller - NO wagon - NO diaper bag! WOOOOOOHOOOO!  Here are the skeleton costumes the kids and I made. Have you ever used freezer paper for stenciling? It is remarkably easy! There are tutorials everywhere for this process but I referred to this tutorial here: here (cannot wait to make this adorable bag by the way!) I freehanded the bone stencils and I let the kids choose their bone color and help with the painting. We ended up with these:

These 4 monsters are some of my favorite kiddos. My little ones go trick or treating with my sisters little gobblins and it is a blast every year. By the way I wish I had a better picture of that little witch! My very talented sister made her costume too!

checking out the loot:

Yep! We had a really fantastic time this year! How was your trick or treat?

what they said wednesday

I have posted a few quotes from my DARLINNNNGGG (are you catching the sarcasm here??) children on here and I thought it might be fun to dedicate one post per week to their silliness while they are still adorable and I dont want to duct tape their mouths shut :)

So here is my first "what they said wednesday"

When reading you should keep in mind that my son is 4 (will be 5 in 1 month....i know? HOW did I get a 5 year old??? God must trust me more that I trust myself!) and my baby big girl is 2 (going on 30).

This on actually happened about a month ago. Their dad and I were taking them to a sitter so we could go to the Japanese Steak House with a group of friends. Here is what happened in the car:

E: Mom, where are you going to dinner? Why arnt you taking us? I want to go to dinner! (etc, 50 other questions, etc...)

Me: We are going to eat Japanese food

E: I would not like that

Me: (rolling eyes because he doesnt like ANYthing except pb&j and of course junk food) You might like it there, buddy. It is cool. They cook the food right in front of you. They catch it on fire and build a volcano out of an onion!

E: WOW!

Lauren Kate: WAIT!! WAIT!! WAIT!!!!! Mommy! That sounds ridiculous. That is NOT silly. That is RID - ICK - U - LOUS!!

How do I argue with that? She is 100% correct.
