padding for video game case tutorial

I am sure you remember the video game case I posted a few days ago? If not please read here and then come back!

I had several questions about how I did the padding so here is the low down! This is the finished inside of the bag:

This is so EASY! I started with a chair pad like this which I bought at Joann's half off. I think it was about $3.00
Next I measured the sides of my finished bag and cut the pieces to size. They were not exact but close enough. Make sure they fit in nicely before proceeding to the next step. You want them to be snug but not bunched up.

Next I took some soft flannel and wrapped up each block like a present. Tuck in the raw edges and tape it down with scotch tape just like a little package.

see, presents!

I dont have a picture of the next step but all I did was hand stitch them closed. I stitched up all of the folds removing the tape as I went.

And that is IT! Stuff them back into the bag and add your game system, camera, whatever you need to protect!

fingerless gloves from leg warmers tutorial

This is one of my favorite things I have created in quite a while and they were sooo simple! I think I only have about an hour in them and most of that was deciding the embellishments! (Always such a dilemma) ... Some people say fingerless gloves are non functional. I say *snort* ARE TOO! They keep you nice and cozy and still allow you to keep typing (or texting :)  )

Now you want a pair too, right? I know you are super jealous of my toasty wrists. hehe

What you will need:
leg warmers
sewing machine
matching thread
embelishments

I actually bought these leg warmers on black friday at kohls for 1.49. SCORE!

First I measured down 4" and made a mark with my disapearing ink fabric marker thingy (what do you call those markers??)

Slide the leg warmer over the arm of your machine and create a faux button hole. I call it faux because all I actually did was use a tight zig zag stitch to make a rectangle. My button hole maker creates a button hole which is too small for my thumb to fit through comfortably.

Here is another view of the "button hole"

next, rip out the middle of the rectangle with your seam ripper and trim the loose threads and yarn

then trim it up with your scissors  - repeat the entire process for the other leg warmer

After completed I slid these on and realized they came up farther over my fingers than I liked...

So, I folded them down and I liked it much better! I sewed this down just using a straight stitch

I finally chose some beads I thought would make a nice addition. You can really do anything with them though. :)

I turned them into these pretty flowers by hand stitching them down

here I am: warm-wristed blog master!

so cozy!

messenger bag for hand held video game

I had some fun with my brand new sewing machine Saturday!! I am in love. I feel bad for cheating on my old Brother machine but this baby?? A Singer? I will probably never go back.

Elijah got a Leapster for his birthday and I swear I have found the thing everywhere! I am afraid it is going to get broken. Hubby suggested I buy a case. BUY?? I dont think so. Here is the bag I made.

He can put his game cartridges in the front zipper pouch. My FIRST EVER zipper! YAY!

Here is the inside. It has super padded lining to protect the game system

And here is what NOT to do. DO NOT slice your finger open with your rotary cutter. It really doesnt feel good. I totally rock the Hello Kitty bandaid though.

I love comments! Please tell me what you think!! :)

junque hunt!!!

My sister and I are oh so ...geeky! We decided to start a new tradition this year! A day JUST FOR US to go searching flea markets, antique shops and thrift stores. We love us some old junk JUNQUE! That is right. To make it a classy day we decided to call it the

GREAT JUNQUE HUNT

...really...we embrace our inner geeks and you should too! I dont have any pictures of our finds but we didnt really buy much! We had an absolute blast though! I ***HEART*** my SEA-STAR!

I bought:
a boat shaped shelf. (you will see it eventually. I have big plans!)
some blue ball jars (I am an addict and cannot quit buying them)
3 pairs of shoes for my kids

Random. I know.

Here are some highlights!! :)

...disclaimer...we didnt buy anything in these pics! (except lunch!)

seriously, look at this SUPER creepy face massaging thingy! eww! It freaked us out bad!

This giraffe was totally creeptastic too! It was...?? It felt like a taxidermied animal! Obviously it isnt but it was totally gross. Why does it have a skull on its --ermm? - saddle?

I was sad these banjo pajama britches were not my size. They were sweet!

Super highlight! Lunch at Panera!! We were in a neighboring town so this was a TOTAL treat since we do not have a Panera Bread in our town. Very sad. VERY. Too bad my salad almost killed me! See that evil pepper??? I ate in in one bite because I really love peppers. These are not usually very hot but BOY! It was horrible!! I had to eat my whole hunk of baguette just to put out the burn. --eating a giant hunk of bread was NOT sad! :)

That about wraps it up. It was a super fantastic day with my bestie! Love you SEA-STAR!

A mother's love story and a call for help!

Happy Friday evening everyone! I have a different kind of post tonight. I want to feature an amazing woman from my hometown here in Ohio, Ginny Andrews. God has blessed Ginny has an amazing story and adventure - she is a living example of one person making a difference in the world and I am sure she is far stronger than I could ever imagine.

Ginny!

You can follow her adventures in nursing and nurturing, faith and frustrations, teaching and treasuring on her blog Ginny in Haiti. Go there. NOW! You will NOT be sorry you did. Her notes and glimpses are such a blessing. I laugh and cry reading most of her posts.

Ginny is a missionary in Haiti and has been for several years. She returned home shortly before the devastating earthquake last year and knew that she must return. Since last spring she has been in the long process of adopting a baby girl!! She has made it through inspections, paperwork and countless other barriers and has had guardianship of precious Odessa since early last summer. Isn't she a DOLL!!???

precious Odessa

Here is where you come in!! Ginny needs to have one last home study completed by a person who is licensed in the United States. If you can help, or know of anyone who can PLEASE contact Ginny or I! you can see details of exactly what she needs here. I know she would love to hear from you!

I would also like to encourage each of you to read and follow Ginny's Blog. You will be BLESSED! PROMISE!

a gift for my love - re-post

I have posted this before but I thought some newbies might like to see this since it would make such a great valentine! <3

This is an oldie but I thought you might like it. My hubby is VERY hard to buy for. He never really wants anything and is not easily surprised. Last year for Christmas I thought it would be nice to give him a list of 100 reasons I love him. Honestly I thought this would be perfect. Thoughtful. I was blown away when, in fact, it took me less than 30 minutes to create the list. I came up with 100 reasons to love my hubby in 30 minutes! In hind sight this should have told me my marriage is amazing. Which I already knew. But initially I felt bad! I felt bad that I had come up with this list in only 30 minutes. I mean, how thoughtful could it be if I finished in a half hour?

To vamp it up I decided to put the reasons into a little scrap book. I printed the list on paper lunch sacks. I liked the color and texture they added. This was a fun project that my husband really enjoyed.

We are truly best friends. :) xoxoxo

A list like this could also be framed and make a nice gift for a birthday, anniversary, valentine, etc
