What isnt he? He is not the kind of kid that appreciates a suit. Our church is a pretty laid back place. I thought I would create something VERY E like for him to wear on Easter. I bought him some fancy {since they are plaid they are obviously fancy} shorts and a pale yellow t shirt. I planned to applique a necktie but suddenly the creative juices started flowing and he ended up wearing this super fun magnetic bow tie. And now you can make one too!!

You will need:

hot glue

2 pieces of fabric

(I am having a hard time remembering the dimensions

and I didnt write them down.

I think the bigger one was around 15"-18" long by 5" wide.

The smaller piece was 3" x 4" (ish) )

magnets

thread

rotary cutter or scissors

sewing machine/thread

Optional - matching paint (not pictured, you will see how I used it later)

start by sewing the longer piece into a tube right sides together. 1/2" seam allowance here

turn it right side out and press with the seam in the middle

Then I folded it over like this:

I overlapped a little

squish it together

add hot glue and squish it back into place

while it dries sew and press the smaller piece of fabric in the same way

then glue it to the center of the bow

tuck the end under and glue it all down

tada!

somehow I dont have a pic of the magnet gluing but you get the idea, glue 1 of the magnets to the back of the tie. The other will go inside the shirt

I discovered after I had it all together that the black from the magnet really stuck out so I found some coordinating paint and fixed that. (yes, I used fabric paint...it is what I had in the right color. Acrylic would probably be better) 

now stick it to the most adorable boy you can find

...

and take as many cute pics as possible while he is willing to smile!



teacher appreciation

Elijah is moving on to Kindergarten next year and as we all know this is teacher appreciation week. He has 2 teachers in his classroom and they both do an amazing job with the children. They treat Lauren like one of the group too and I truly appreciate that!

He goes to a Methodist pre-school and I am taking the opportunity to make a Christian gift before he goes to public school next year. I based this creation off of Matthew 5:16:

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

E got to pick out a pair of new sunglasses for each of his teachers and I made these scrappy pouches to put them in. They are very easy and I was running short on time so I didnt make a tutorial. What do you think?

dachshund necklace

Hey everyone! Happy Easter! It has been a BUSY week around here. Sorry for not posting more!

I thought I would share a cute necklace I whipped up yesterday after bed time. I dont know why this came to me but I thought it sounded cute and I am so happy with how it turned out!

I took a few vinyl scraps I had (the fakey leather style) and created this charming little girl! Isnt she cute??

This was super quick and easy! I found a silhouette image of a dachshund using google image search. I traced the image onto the vinyl with a pencil and cut out 2 of them (mirror images) then I used hot glue to stick them together, added some jump rings and a ball chain and she was finished! I thought she needed a pretty bow too! I hope you like her!

I am submitting this project to Iron Crafter! It is the first time I have entered! YAY!

CELEBRATING 100+ FOLLOWERS! using 100 tickets

I hope you are enjoying my 100+ followers celebration! Today's challenge was to use 100 tickets. They type you use for raffles etc. My kids love using tickets for all kinds of things. And my son loved this framed piece I made for his room.

Last year we vacationed in Gatlinburg and he and I bought an all day pass for the ski lift. We rode about 6 or so times! He loved it so much I thought I would commemorate it for him! So I used the 100 tickets for the mat and added a family photo from the trip, the photo we bought from the souvenir shop and a penny he smashed at the top of the mountain. He is so thrilled with it and I am too! It was a fast and easy project! Sorry for the horrible picture. I was out of natural light!

CELEBRATING 100+ FOLLOWERS! - book clutch for 100 pennies!

I asked for challenges and AWESOME follower Rachel from Maybe Matilda suggested I create something using 100 pennies. I instantly! thought about the cool clutch I had been saving from the thrift store. I have been majorly inspired by this amazing tutorial from See Kate Sew. I have been wanting to create one for.eve.AH. Here is mine!

here is the sweet .99 cent clutch I got from the thrift store months ago.

so...why I have I been waiting so long to create this??? Honestly? I could NOT find a vintage book, you know the hard backs that are cloth covered? I could not find one in the appropriate size or color. But I really wanted to use the clutch for this post so I improvised and covered a plain old book with fabric! WAHHOO! I LOVE the results!

So, how did I make my version of Kate's amazing clutch??

I started with the following goodies:

99 cent clutch

book. Dont worry! It isnt a cool vintage book! It is a boring college book. see? It's ok.

Mod Podge

scissors

exacto

adhesive - I used E-6000

foam brush

embellishments - I used some synged satin circles to make a flower

step 1. DESTROY THAT BOOK! very therapeutic.

"measure" your fabric

coat the outside of the book cover with mod podge

smooth the fabric over the book. be sure to press it into the creases of the spine. get all the air bubbles!

I put the pages back in and squeezed it down to make sure i had the stretch/shape just right

Flip it over and cut a few slits where the spine is. Like this:

I didnt take a pic of the gluing process but you just glue in the clutch

I added the penny so the project would cost the full 100 pennies!

The big bummer. this is just about 1/8" too short to hold a kindle. I think it would be a GREAT kindle case!
